Context
Project Brief
This was my final project for Computer Applications Studio (ARTD 228). The assignment was to model a product, either existing or original, using SolidWorks, create high-quality KeyShot renderings, and present the final design in a poster format.

I chose to model the Carver CX surfskate, a product I personally enjoy using. Its unique form and mechanical function made it an interesting subject to recreate in CAD. I also appreciated Carver’s strong brand identity, which gave me an opportunity to have fun with the visual direction of the final poster.

Reflection
What Have I Learned?
1. Familiarizing myself with more complex tools on Solidworks.

  • Pushed myself to go beyond basic features by learning advanced tools like lofts, sweeps, and surface modeling.
  • This helped me build more refined and realistic parts, while deepening my understanding of how CAD software can replicate real-world forms.

2. Exploring different materials when rendering on Keyshot.

  • Tried out a wide range of materials and finishes to better visualize how the product looks in real life.
  • This experimentation improved my ability to communicate design intent and gave me a better sense of how material choice affects the overall aesthetic.

3. Working on my graphic design skills.

  • Focused on layout, typography, and color choices that reflected the brand identity of the product, while giving it a more minimalistic twist.
